Synopsis:

Reality Sandwich is an ongoing, place-responsive video series that unfolds through performative encounters with artists and cultural practitioners across different geographies. Each episode begins with the question, “What does a Reality Sandwich mean to you?” and develops through unscripted, collaborative exchanges shaped by time and context. Moving across cities such as New York, Gwangju, Shanghai, Bacolod, Seoul, Rotterdam, Jogja, Kawasaki, and Riyadh, the project resists conventional documentary structures in favor of improvisation and a “methodology of presence,” where meaning emerges through lived experience.

Ep.12 Reality Sandwich: Korean Palace centers on a long-standing Korean restaurant in Riyadh, founded over thirty-six years ago by a migrant from the wave of Korean labor migration in the 1970s–80s. Using this site as a point of departure, the work expands to explore the broader history of Korean migration to Saudi Arabia, incorporating conversations linked to the Korean Embassy in Riyadh and documentation at the Korean International School in Jeddah, tracing connections between early migrants and younger generations.
