Synopsis
In Yogyakarta, Wok the Rock calls out, “Reality Sandwich!” — a signal that sets a quiet chain of events into motion. Four individuals hear the call and arrive at a table, where four aging recording devices await them: an old iPhone, a worn MacBook, an action cam, and a dusty camcorder. Each person picks one up and embarks on a personal journey to answer a shared question: What is a reality sandwich?
Armed with the iPhone, Vandy wanders into Jogja’s bustling city center, striking up conversations with strangers about passersby, politics, and presence. Arief, using the MacBook, reflects on Korean writers, live-streaming himself via Omegle while exploring a local cave. With the action cam, Eris sets out to find a bowl of noodles — and perhaps something sacred — as he circles the city in search of a temple. Amal, guided by the camcorder, heads to the beach, revisiting memories of a recently departed friend.
A layered portrait unfolds — at once playful and meditative — where each recording becomes a fragment of Jogja’s collective subconscious.
